Mariya's First Fever

For the first time in her life, my baby was down with high fever, accompanied by Mr vomitting and Mrs diarrhea. and not to mention, their lil children. miss cough and runny nose. :( I was sick last Saturday and i think maybe i have passed a lil bit of my virus to my baby. im sorrry mariya :)
Had my MC on Tuesday and baby started to feel feverish on Wednesday. Worked on Wednesday but took EL on Thursday to take care of her.
But alhamdulilah she is fine already. Thank you Allah.

On Wednesday evening, she had slight fever so i spared paracetamol and ibuprofen to her babysitter. During lunch, i went back  to check on her and gave her paracetamol. ( hehe,, when it comes to medicine, i prefer to give it on my own) .The temperature went down a bit.

well after work, suddenly the Temp raised again. I gave med again but it didnt work.

So thats it with Paracetamol.

She couldnt sleep, all she did was crying the whole night out..And in between that, she had diarrhea and vomitting. I was soo panic and of course SAD :) ( i insisted to go the ER! hahah being a first time mother to an unwell baby kan
But i remember reading somewhere, if you exclusively breastfeed your baby for the first 6 months, insyaAllah, with Allah's will, the baby will get sick less. i hope so. really hope so.  So all i did that night, was hug her the whole night and of course, LOTS LOTS LOTS of breastfeeding. I dont care i didnt get any sleep , all i wanted is to see my baby smiling and laughing again.
I didnt give her med anymore. I just  pray to Allah and of course, hug and kiss her. Its true, when they said, breast milk is the best medicine for baby ( at least thats what i always tell my patients). And again, Thank You Allah for that.

The next morning, the temperature is starting to go down...no more vomitting and still slight of diarhea.  I know it could be a viral infection and it is self-limiting. I didnt give any med on Thurday, And again, for the whole day, she was close to my body the whole time! i hugged and carried her everywhere. ( i took EL remember :) FAMILY MUST COME FIRST no matter that day you have piling works and reports to submit!! i had to take EL for my baby. )  So by evening, the temperature was back to normal and no more vomitting, cough n runny nose. Subhanallah...

But the point im trying to convey here is, when your baby is sick, medicine is the last option. especially for the cough, runny nose, vomitting and diarhea. Let it heal by itself or do it naturally.. but of course, there are certain time period of that.

Paracetamol is still ok for the fever. To cool down a bit. but i dont give it every 4 hours . Only when i think its really high . ( sbb takut dpt fits ke ape kan.. ) . But i totally disagree with giving cough /runny nose meds to baby. NO NO! please! Im a pharmacist, yes drug works but pls dont give it to little baby.

All your baby needs is your attention, tender, loving and care, and of course, your breastmilk. ( if you cant breastfeed, formula will do) But i think, the TLC plays an important role. All these while, i only read about it. But when i experienced it myself, Masha Allah.. Allah's creation is PERFECT! You may think this is only one- time experienve for me.. so its easy for me to say. But ive been reading about this a lot. and i do tell my patients to do this. even my mum asked me to do the same thing. I guess its a common practise. Congratulations to you if you are doing it. Im a newbie here so just to share some experience. Cos i met, i had some patients who insisted to get some meds when the baby was only sick for few hours. The limit is always 3 days. Anything more than 3 days, anything with blood, or if your gut feeling tells u something is not right. ALWAYS GO TO THE DOCTOR!!

SO what to do when your baby is not so well?
Bila baby tak sihat sangat, just for a day or two, dont give ubat yet. Paracetamol is OK. but the best is natural. and of course,

Breastfeed her and hug her like really really A LOT!
